Finally....a little late in the season....and as much as working nights cuts into my out door time what soever...today( yesterday) I had a chance that I could actually participate in the best of both worlds....I got to spend a beautiful December morning with smerch trying our best to get a trout in the net... ( Psst...we should have went pike fishing)...haha...tough morning...no current put a damper on the bottom bouncing....later in the day.. current picked up sun came out...turned into the perfect day....but this old kid already stayed up too late and had to go to bed for the best part of them go to work.....got off early (2am..)....set up my blind and cracked a beer in the recroom....sat there quietly for a little while.....then finally out of boredom and an overactive imagination I managed to bag this trophy non typical.........

Squirrel is good food. Boil the pieces in water with garlic powder, sage, salt and pepper until meat is ready to fall off the squirrel pieces. Dip pieces in beaten egg and dredge in crushed Ritz crackers, Melt margarine in frying pan and brown the cracker covered squirrel. Serve with mashed potatoes and corn.
Bonus Jackrabbit with the squirrel. All with the LH bolt action 22LR.

When I was 16 I got my first gun , a 20 gauge Cooey single shot with a hammer and got my first rabbit first time out with it , about 200 yds. from where I am sitting right now . It was a lucky shot as the hammer slipped while I was raising the gun to my shoulder and the gun went off ....hitting the rabbit in the head as it ran to my left at 90 km. My uncle said "great shot" ....never told him it was an 'accidental great shot' .  We also went on "Jack" drives , walking for miles across wide open plowed fields where they like to sit with their "ears up" . They made the best stews you ever had ! And the bunnies made lovely rabbit pies . ( Tonights supper was chicken pot pie , made me think of the rabbit pies) .  I suppose you could do the same with those nutty flavoured squirrels .....

.....and ....btw ....that 10 acre field is now full of houses as most of my old "bush" spots that are now subdivisions . And Ford is ready to fill the greenbelt with more houses ,& plazas. If I want squirrel dinners I can set my trap in my yard and fill my freezer .

To be honest I find no difference between the 2 but it could also be the way I am cooking them up?

Hey Tyler I end up eating the whole thing, there is actually a good amount in the rib cage sides that hold good meat. Last one I did was up in the air fryer very yummy with bbq sauce!

Nice shooting David. Should be good cooked up in a pressure cooker.
I love going after small game as well, especially rabbits.
Unfortunately alot of spots dont hold them anymore.

They look yummy...I've made just about everything with the venison...I have one recipe for sausage that's simple and my family and all my buddies love it...and a running joke about how my mother in law likes touching my sausage 🙄🤮

Decided to go with venison burgers over sausages. Family will eat them more often and save money on casings. Made a 9lb test batch and they turned out better than expected. 9lbs made me 28 burgers on the thickest setting on my burger press.

Moved a deer stand into a thick section of bush after seeing multiple large tracks in the bush last week....well it worked perfect...at 330 a small fawn came through hung out for 10 minutes...at 420 a doe passed by me at 50 yards very cautiously I stayed completely still knowing the possibility of a buck being not far away....she slowly walked off outta sight ..about 20 mins goes by and I hear a couple twigs snap..I catch movement to my left headed towards a good sized opening in front of me...a good buck ....I ranged him at 41 yards...I have 20-30-40 yrd pins on my bow and practice constantly with all three distances....the deer takes three steps and stops looks right up at me and bobs his head up and down he knew something wasn't right the wind was perfect though....he dropped his head so I pulled my bow back with my knees just knocking away and got settled and put the 40 yrd pin behind his shoulder and letter fly ...wack...I shoulder shot him he ran my arrow fell out quickly...I was devastated...I waited till it was completely dark to get outta the tree...I looked at the arrow..4 inches penetration ...walked in the direction he ran with my headlight on and woohoo there he was lying in the thickets 40 yards away.... bowhunting is awesome!. This is my third largest whitetail in the last 20 yrs..stoked!

Had the pleasure of getting out with smerch today after what seems to be forever. We headed out with the thoughts of multi species possibilities for the morning....a bit of floating around some minnows...fishing the bottom...and a bit of bottom bouncing in hopes of a trout a pike a perch or anything else that might bite for that matter...we spent a few hours giving it a go with no success...then I finally pulled one out of a hat. I think the sudden cold snap and weird weather today may have had them turned off a bit.... Let the cold water season begin!!!...lol.. Always a pleasure Bill..thanks for the pick up and the minnows and of course the good company. We will have to get out again soon

Way to go fishingking!. Most people don’t know how difficult it is to take a deer with a bow.
You’re real close to it, you have to move to draw the bow, your clothes make noise as you draw, etc.
Thats a real feat and your shot looks excellent. Congratulations.

I’m sure it’s going on a wall. Wouldn’t want someone else catching it and breaking your record. Too bad it wasn’t a Canadian that caught it. Damn Americans fishing our waters.

The doe follows up on the bear I got with the bow in August. Would have liked a chance at a moose but had to back out when a good money job came up at the same time as the hunt. No problem though as Mooseslayer came thru again.
